class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>El Laboratorio de Radiofrecuencia de Alto Gradiente del IFIC permite estudiar y caracterizar las cavidades de radiofrecuencia, uno de los elementos b\u00e1sicos de los aceleradores de part\u00edculas. Sus prestaciones, principalmente la frecuencia de oscilaci\u00f3n de 3 GHz y la tasa de repetici\u00f3n de las se\u00f1ales de hasta 400 Hz, la convierten en una instalaci\u00f3n \u00fanica en Espa\u00f1a.<\/p><p>La instalaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ada para operar con cavidades que trabajan en la llamada banda S, un sector espec\u00edfico de la regi\u00f3n de microondas del espectro electromagn\u00e9tico. En esta banda funcionan la mayor\u00eda de las cavidades de radiofrecuencia en aceleradores para aplicaciones m\u00e9dicas e industriales, as\u00ed como algunos est\u00e1ndares de sistemas de comunicaci\u00f3n inal\u00e1mbrica y de sat\u00e9lites. Estas cavidades, por su dise\u00f1o y fabricaci\u00f3n, permiten generar campos electromagn\u00e9ticos muy intensos (de alto gradiente), consiguiendo una capacidad de acelerar part\u00edculas de m\u00e1s de 100 MV\/m. La operatividad en estas condiciones permitir\u00e1 conseguir aceleradores lineales m\u00e1s compactos y de menor coste, lo que es esencial para desarrollar instalaciones para nuevos tratamientos contra el c\u00e1ncer como la hadronterapia.<\/p><p>En concreto, las cavidades de radiofrecuencia que se ensayan en este laboratorio del IFIC consiguen un rango de energ\u00edas de 70-230 MeV para protones y 100-400 MeV para electrones. Esta caracter\u00edstica posibilita desarrollar nuevas terapias contra el c\u00e1ncer con part\u00edculas pesadas, las cuales depositan la mayor parte de la energ\u00eda en el tumor, afectando menos al tejido sano circundante. Otras aplicaciones son el desarrollo de tecnolog\u00edas de aceleraci\u00f3n para futuros aceleradores de part\u00edculas como CLIC o el International Linear Collider (ILC), de rayos X como XFEL, as\u00ed como en telecomunicaciones.<\/p><p>El laboratorio funciona como parte de un acelerador de part\u00edculas a peque\u00f1a escala. La se\u00f1al se genera mediante dos equipos tipo klystron que amplifican la se\u00f1al de radiofrecuencia de 3 GHz. Estos equipos son alimentados por moduladores con tecnolog\u00eda de estado s\u00f3lido capaces de generar pulsos el\u00e9ctricos muy intensos de 150 KV y 100 A que duran microsegundos.<\/p><p>Un sistema de control desarrollado por el IFIC combina las dos se\u00f1ales y las env\u00eda sincronizadas a la cavidad de radiofrecuencia con una frecuencia de hasta 400 veces por segundo. Para enviar las se\u00f1ales al interior de la cavidad se utilizan gu\u00edas de onda rectangulares en cuyo interior se crean condiciones de ultra alto vac\u00edo tan bajas como las de la atm\u00f3sfera lunar (10<sup>-10<\/sup> milibares).
