class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El Laboratori de Radiofreq\u00fc\u00e8ncia d&#8217;Alt Gradient de l&#8217;IFIC permet estudiar i caracteritzar les cavitats de radiofreq\u00fc\u00e8ncia, un dels elements b\u00e0sics dels acceleradors de part\u00edcules. Les seues prestacions, principalment la freq\u00fc\u00e8ncia d&#8217;oscil\u00b7laci\u00f3 de 3 GHz i la taxa de repetici\u00f3 dels senyals de fins a 400 Hz, la converteixen en una instal\u00b7laci\u00f3 \u00fanica a Espanya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">La instal\u00b7laci\u00f3 est\u00e0 dissenyada per operar amb cavitats que treballen en l&#8217;anomenada banda S, un sector espec\u00edfic de la regi\u00f3 de microones de l&#8217;espectre electromagn\u00e8tic. En aquesta banda funcionen la majoria de les cavitats de radiofreq\u00fc\u00e8ncia en acceleradors per a aplicacions m\u00e8diques i industrials, aix\u00ed com alguns est\u00e0ndards de sistemes de comunicaci\u00f3 sense fil i de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits. Aquestes cavitats, pel seu disseny i fabricaci\u00f3, permeten generar camps electromagn\u00e8tics molt intensos (d&#8217;alt gradient), amb la qual cosa s\u2019aconsegueix una capacitat d&#8217;accelerar part\u00edcules de m\u00e9s de 100 MV\/m. L&#8217;operativitat en aquestes condicions permet aconseguir acceleradors lineals m\u00e9s compactes i de menor cost, cosa que \u00e9s essencial per desenvolupar instal\u00b7lacions per a nous tractaments contra el c\u00e0ncer, com l&#8217;hadronter\u00e0pia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En concret, les cavitats de radiofreq\u00fc\u00e8ncia que s&#8217;assagen en aquest laboratori de l&#8217;IFIC aconsegueixen un rang d&#8217;energies de 70-230 MeV per a protons i 100-400 MeV per a electrons. Aquesta caracter\u00edstica possibilita desenvolupar noves ter\u00e0pies contra el c\u00e0ncer amb part\u00edcules pesants, les quals depositen la major part de l&#8217;energia al tumor i afecten menys el teixit circumdant. Altres aplicacions s\u00f3n el desenvolupament de tecnologies d&#8217;acceleraci\u00f3 per a futurs acceleradors de part\u00edcules com CLIC o l&#8217;International Linear Collider (ILC), de raigs X com XFEL, aix\u00ed com en telecomunicacions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El laboratori funciona com a part d&#8217;un accelerador de part\u00edcules a petita escala. El senyal es genera mitjan\u00e7ant dos equips tipus klystron que amplifiquen el senyal de radiofreq\u00fc\u00e8ncia de 3 GHz. Aquests equips s\u00f3n alimentats per moduladors amb tecnologia d&#8217;estat s\u00f2lid capa\u00e7os de generar polsos el\u00e8ctrics molt intensos de 150 KV i 100 A que duren microsegons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Un sistema de control desenvolupat per l&#8217;IFIC combina els dos senyals i els envia sincronitzats a la cavitat de radiofreq\u00fc\u00e8ncia amb una freq\u00fc\u00e8ncia de fins a 400 vegades per segon. Per a enviar els senyals a l&#8217;interior de la cavitat s&#8217;utilitzen guies d&#8217;ona rectangulars a l&#8217;interior de la qual es creen condicions d&#8217;ultraalt buit tan baixes com les de l&#8217;atmosfera lunar (10<sup>-10<\/sup> mil\u00b7libars). El laboratori pot funcionar durant setmanes o mesos de manera cont\u00ednua, tant per a realitzar estudis com per a condicionar les cavitats, preparant-les per al seu \u00fas posterior.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La precisi\u00f3 d&#8217;aquest singular sistema permet mesurar amb exactitud quan s&#8217;introdueix el senyal a la cavitat. A m\u00e9s, si es produeix un fenomen anomenat RF breakdown (petites espurnes a l&#8217;interior de les cavitats per l&#8217;alteraci\u00f3 del material davant camps electromagn\u00e8\u00adtics tan intensos), tamb\u00e9 \u00e9s capa\u00e7 de detectar-lo amb rapidesa i es pot localitzar el lloc de l&#8217;interior de la cavitat on s\u2019ha produ\u00eft la fallada.
